Healthy Living Environments
Healthy Homes: Working with community partners including the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition (NWBCC) and landlords in the Bronx to implement the Healthy Buildings Program. This program uses tenant organizing, green building and community health education to address poor housing conditions that worsen or cause asthma, such as mold and pest presence.
Asthma-Free Homes: supporting local law amending the New York City Housing Maintenance Code to hold landlords accountable for addressing indoor asthma allergen hazards. Intro 385A strengthens enforcement for these housing code violations. Coalition partners include West Harlem Environmental Action, Inc. (WE ACT), Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC), and Commission on the Public’s Health System New York (CPHS)
Stand for Tenant Safety: Supporting a city wide tenant rights coalition empowering tenants to ensure that public agencies and landlords are accountable for ensuring safe living spaces.
