NYLPI’s Opportunity and Access Program operates a number of projects addressing general accessibility needs of New Yorkers with disabilities. In each of these projects, we provide a combination of advocacy, legal advice and community organizing resources to ensure that people with disabilities can enforce the full range of their rights.
- Duane Reade
In 2001, NYLPI filed suit against Duane Reade Inc. on behalf of our client group, Disabled in Action. In 2006, a consent decree was filed requiring that Duane Reade renovate its stores and retrain its employees to ensure accessibility for consumers with disabilities. In the years since, NYLPI has continued to push for Duane Reade’s compliance with the orders of the decree.
