Litigation plays a critical role in movements for racial justice. Across a range of cutting edge issues legal advocates work closely with movement leaders to mobilize litigation as one of the tactics deployed to combat structural racism.

In this afternoon’s program, Christine Appah-Gyamfi will speak on “Environmental Justice as Racial Justice.” Christine Appah-Gyamfi is a senior staff attorney in the Environmental Justice Program for New York Lawyers for the Public Interest. Her work focuses on urban environmental health issues and sustainability. She began her legal career as a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society where she worked to preserve safe and affordable housing for vulnerable families. Prior to joining NYLPI, Christine served as a regional director at the New York State Division of Human Rights. Christine graduated magna cum laude from The City College of New York and earned her law degree from Duke University School of Law.

This talk is a part of Professor Franke’s Racial Justice Litigation course at Columbia Law School; this program is free and open to the public.
