New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI), a nonprofit civil rights law firm committed to advancing equality and civil rights, seeks a dynamic Development Associate to join its team.
For nearly 40 years, NYLPI has been a leading civil rights advocate for marginalized New Yorkers. These communities define our work; they shape our priorities, and their struggles for justice demand innovative solutions. We strive to create equal access to health care, achieve equality of opportunity and self-determination for people with disabilities, ensure immigrant opportunity, strengthen local non-profits, and secure environmental justice for low-income communities of color.
NYLPI pioneered the practice of community lawyering in the five boroughs of New York City. Our interdisciplinary teams of advocates use every tool available – community organizing, impact litigation and individual representation, policy advocacy, media, pro bono partnerships, and public education – to solve seemingly intractable problems, develop leaders, and build collective power to achieve justice and equality. Integrated with our programs, our Pro Bono Clearinghouse provides community groups and nonprofit organizations with free legal assistance by drawing on hundreds of volunteer lawyers from New York’s most prestigious law firms and corporate law departments.
The Development Associate will be part of a four person team and will also work closely with the Executive Director and other key staff. The Associate will work on all areas of fundraising and relationship cultivation including: grants management, grant and report writing, government funding, foundation support, stewardship, special events, solicitation and cultivation mailings, maintaining the database, research, communications and general administrative tasks.
The Development Associate will report directly to the Director of Development. The position provides an excellent opportunity to work on all aspects of fundraising for an established and dynamic non-profit.
Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree, have at least two to three years of development-specific work experience, be extremely organized, have strong writing skills and good computer skills, including database and spreadsheet management. Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge is highly preferred. Experience in basic communications and graphic design is a plus. Applicants must also have a demonstrated commitment to social justice and civil rights.
Salary is $50K+, depending on experience.
