Access-a-Ride Reform Group, Disability Justice, For-Hire Vehicles

As for-hire vehicles such as Uber and Lyft have transformed the market, NYLPI has championed equitable wheelchair accessibility of their cars. We testified in favor of the Taxi and Limousine Commission’s proposed regulations to increase the stock of wheelchair-accessible vehicles. When the protections passed and the industry sued to halt their implementation, we submitted a friend-of-the-court brief and published “Left Behind ,” a NYLPI report that documented the lack of wheelchair-accessible service and focused significant media attention on the problem.
