April 20, 2016Disability Justice, Press Release
NYLPI has reached a landmark settlement in its class action lawsuit against the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) to win equal access for people with limited English proficiency to Access-A-Ride, New York City’s public transportation system for New Yorkers with disabilities. The sweeping settlement agreement, which federal judge Ronnie Abrams preliminarily approved on Friday, requires NYCTA to provide interpretation and translation services for Access-A-Ride applicants and customers who need them. NYLPI pursued the lawsuit, which is anticipated to impact tens of thousands of New Yorkers with disabilities, with co-counsel Jenner & Block LLP.
